On 29 April 2020 a fire broke out at “Die Strandloper”, a well known Restaurant in Langebaan, West Coast. Investigations suggests that it might have been vandalism. About 60% of the Restaurant has been damaged, but the GOOD news is rebuilding this Gem will commence shortly. ” Die Strandloper” , on the beach in Langebaan, has been a well known tourist attraction since “Pa fell of the bus” a phrase they use for many, many years. Staff like “Marie” a legend herself, has been working there her whole life. “Local is Lekker” is but a phrase to be used by many of us and will be remembered and cherished.
This Restaurant has been famous for it’s tight nit family who has devoted their lives and love for local food and local staff. Building fires, turning grids, baking bread, to name a few items on their fabulous menu designed from local, fresh produce from the West Coast. This made “Die Strandloper” a must go to destination for tourist and Locals to experience their unique decor and menu.
What stood out, is their love for their local community as they would donate left over food to the under privilage at the end of each day. In their book ” Sharing is Caring” is well known.
Many special memories have been captured from weddings, year end functions and events. Guests from all over the world has left a footprint at “Die Strandloper”, a jewel for many who visited. We can only anticipate and wait for the rebuilding and re-opening of this Restaurant to enjoy again the “Local Is Lekker” seafood menu that only the West Coast can produce.
